Design and Technology

At Heather, we want our pupils to be well equipped to deal with tomorrows rapidly changing world. DT encourages children to become independent, creative problem solvers and thinkers as both individuals and as part of a team. It enables them to identify needs and opportunities and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and by making products and systems.

DT at Heather is taught in all year groups by doing one project each term, which includes one food-technology based project. Projects are often made cross-curricular, linking to other subjects taught and are supported by TTS Primary DT planners.

In EYFS pupils explore and use a variety of media and materials through a combination of child initiated and adult directed activities. In both KS1 and KS2, pupils follow the: Design, Make, Evaluate cycle.

The subject co-ordinator would like to raise funds to improve our current DT curriculum and adopt a successful, progressive whole-school curriculum such as: DATA Projects on a page, PlanBee or Kapow Primary Art & Design curriculum. Not only would this allow for a better teaching and learning experience for the children, it would also support staff in developing their DT subject knowledge and understanding of the Design, Make, Evaluate cycle, and also ensure a clear progression of skills
